Washington's First Creative District Aims for Renewal
In an exciting announcement, Governor Inslee revealed that Downtown Edmonds had been chosen as Washington’s inaugural Creative District in November 2018.
This prestigious designation acknowledges the thriving arts, cultural, and creative industries present in Edmonds, as well as the city's unwavering commitment to continual improvement, investments, and expansion. Recent events such as PorchFest, the captivating live performance of "Mika's Song" at the newly established Mika's Playground, and other innovative cultural initiatives have solidified our Creative District's identity as a truly unique and imaginative hub.
As per the State program's requirements, Edmonds must undergo recertification after the initial five-year period. Mayor Nelson shared his thoughts on the city's upcoming recertification bid, stating, "Over the past five years, this program has fostered better coordination within the arts community and served as a catalyst for enhancing our marketing and promotion efforts. A testament to its success is that we managed to protect every major arts organization in the city throughout the pandemic."
With an ambitious plan in place until 2028, the City aims to pursue several key objectives, including the continued development of the Fourth Avenue Cultural Corridor, activating public spaces for arts and culture, fostering stronger engagement with the creative business sector, reaching out to schools and diverse communities, collaborating with other designated Creative Districts, and further amplifying existing branding and marketing endeavors.
