Amazon Begins Relocating Employees to Bellevue
Amazon has relocated approximately 1,000 employees from Seattle to Bellevue, Washington, as part of its plan to eventually employ 25,000 people in the area.
The company has completed construction up to the 19th floor of the 555 Tower in Bellevue, with the remaining floors awaiting interior buildout. Amazon paused construction on five towers in downtown Bellevue last year due to uncertainty surrounding the impact of hybrid work on office designs.
However, the company stated that it will move more employees into the West Main Tower One later this year. Amazon currently employs over 55,000 corporate and tech workers in Seattle and over 10,000 in Bellevue and the surrounding Eastside area. The 555 Tower, located at 555 108th Ave. N.E., is the tallest building in Bellevue, reaching 600 feet and featuring a retail pavilion and public plaza. Other buildings in the area include The Artise and Bellevue 600, which will serve as Amazon's central hub in Bellevue.
While Amazon has not provided updated timelines for the construction pause, it has expressed plans to focus its future growth in the city. The return-to-office mandate from Amazon earlier this year has also prompted other companies to bring their employees back to their Bellevue offices, providing a boost to the Eastside office market. Microsoft, on the other hand, is reducing its office space in Bellevue as it continues construction on its Redmond headquarters campus.
